Sherry Awbrey, SMMC

Vice President of National Sales

Sherry Awbrey, SMMC brings over 20 years of hospitality industry experience in operations, conference services execution, sales and marketing to EMC Meetings & Events (EMC).  Ms. Awbrey joined the EMC’s team as Director of National Accounts in 2006 and is currently Vice President of National Sales.  Her expertise led to the development and success of EMC' s Strategic Meetings Management program that brought on several accounts that quickly became EMC top clients. It is through her devotion and loyalty along with EMC superior service offerings and customer focus that sustains and grows existing customers’ business. Ms. Awbrey’s consistent strong leadership and high revenue production have earned her the title of Vice President of National Sales.

Ms. Awbrey delivers quality site selection sourcing, contract negotiation and reporting for multiple top accounts at EMC. She has expertise and proven results working with Procurement managers to develop a Strategic Meeting Management approach in a culture where meetings come from various departments and division.  This approach is very effective in streamlining the process and demonstrating return on investment. Ms. Awbrey also manages a very aggressive training calendar for a large financial institution.

As an alumni of Jacksonville State University in Alabama, Sherry has worked for Wyndham Worldwide and two independent conference centers prior to joining EMC.  She held various positions at the Peachtree Executive Conference Center where she gained experience in front office operations, conference services execution and sales and marketing management.  She exceeded in sales consistently by over 20% of goals while handling the Southeast, Midwest and Northeast US corporate markets. Ms. Awbrey also held the Associate Director of Sales position at both Aberdeen Woods Conference Center and Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center.

Ms. Awbrey became one of the first 29 people worldwide to receive her Strategic Meetings Management Certification (SMMC) in 2010 from Global Business Travel Association (GBTA).  She has completed the GBTA Academy-Manager Level Program.  Sherry truly enjoys collaborating with industry colleagues to identify and promote best practices in this arena. Sherry has given several presentations on Strategic Meetings Management as well as served on several industry panels as an expert.

Ms. Awbrey has been an integral member of the Georgia Meeting Professionals International (GaMPI) since joining the hotel sales arena in the 1990’s.  She has served on the Board of Directors as Vice President Membership, Co-Chaired the Summer Education Alliance committee for several years – delivering off-shore conferences and continues to be dynamic committee member of Awards & Recognition and Co Chairs the Grant and Recognition committee.

Ms. Awbrey sits on the advisory board of The Ridges Resort, an Executive Retreat center in the North Georgia mountain area and is actively involved with SITE South East and International Association of Conference Centers (IACC).  Sherry takes pride in having experience from "both sides of the house," understanding the suppliers’ perspective as well as the needs of planners and decision makers.
