PERSONAL PROFILE:

Dr. Vena Ricketts, Associate Chief of the Olive View-UCLA Department of Emergency Medicine, exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism both locally and globally. At Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, Dr. Ricketts developed the annual Health Career Day, an award-winning outreach to local schools, and the Community Service Health Education and Patient Recognition Day, which provides multidisciplinary health education outreach to the community.

One of Dr. Ricketts’ greatest passions is to provide medical services to developing countries where needs are significant. As Director for Medical Missions at her church, she has trained and equipped medical personnel to go on short-term medical missions overseas. Over the past 12 years she has led or assisted in sending medical personnel to the following countries: Ghana, West Africa, Nepal, Haiti, Uganda, Bulgaria, the West Bank of Israel, Gambia, Cambodia, and Sri Lanka. Over 80,000 people have been served by this outreach.
