Learning objectives
After this lecture the participants should be able to:
- Describe the history of MRSA.
- Recognize the emergence of MRSA as a common
cause of community-acquired skin infections. - Decide appropriate empiric therapy for skin infections
that may involve MRSA. - Understand how rapid testing could influence treatment
of skin infections and isolation decisions. - Recommend to patients methods to prevent MRSA
infection.

Dr. Moran is the lead author of the seminal New England Journal of Medicine article on the emergence of MRSA among Emergency Department patients with skin and soft tissue infections.
